Borrowing Cuba returns to southern Italy a decade after

our Emmy-winning HBO documentary It Will Be Chaos, uncovering a startling reversal of migration in a region that once resisted newcomers.
 

As Italian doctors flee the South’s collapsing public healthcare system for wealthier regions, local authorities have recruited more than 400 Cuban doctors to keep it alive.

At the center of the film is a Cuban doctor navigating the fault lines of this fragile exchange, caught between professional duty and political reality,

belonging and exclusion in both countries.

Through her journey, Borrowing Cuba reveals a powerful, intimate portrait of two societies in crisis, seen through the eyes of someone who is desperately needed, yet never fully accepted.
